serca PROPOSES:
- Public native forests managed for carbon sequestration, and water and biodiversity values
- Private native forest owners given incentives to conserve forest areas
- Existing plantation supplies used for virtually all australia’s domestic and export uses. No new plantations are needed
- No native forest products for woodchips, electricity generation or biofuel
- Government policy distortions removed
- Genuinely clean, green industries developed in the regions, with new industries, new jobs and job training
CAMPAIGN EVENTS
- our town our forest our future. A forest picnic is planned for Sunday 30 August 09 12 noon to 4pm. BBQ BYO food and drinks. There will be music, local honey for sale, raffles and speakers. This is a children friendly event. To get there, follow the picnic signs to the bike path parking area and join in the celebration of the beauty and importance to us of our Bermagui forest,
the northern gateway to Bermagui and to Australia’s Coastal Wilderness.
- Far south coast conservationists support Tasmanian forest campaign Scott Daines (right) of Wandella presents a cheque for $500 from the South East Region Conservation Alliance (SERCA) in Tasmania this week to Warrick Jordan of the group Still Wild Still Threatened.
SERCA spokesperson, Ms Prue Acton says that SERCA is very pleased to have been able to support colleagues in Tasmania. "We have been inspired by their strongly activist campaign and we are united in our aim to move the woodchipping industry out of native forests."
- BIODIVERSITY SUMMIT 2009: Biodiversity for Climate Protection. Saturday 8 August. Canberra. Organised by Lawyers for Forests and the Green Institute.
This one-day event aims to improve understanding of the connections between biodiversity and climate, and why protecting natural ecosystems is essential to help tackle the climate crisis.
